The 3-CPU3 serves as the Central Processing Unit Module, overseeing the status of every module and acting as the hub for network communication. While each individual rail card is equipped with its own microprocessor, the 3-CPU3 manages all communication between modules and is capable of downloading operational parameters to the rail modules. When powered on, the 3-CPU3 automatically detects and records the attributes and locations of all connected local rail modules. Site-specific software is installed onto the 3-CPU3, which then distributes the necessary data to each local rail module. Firmware updates are also managed through the 3-CPU3, removing the need to physically remove and replace chips on the rail modules.

Installation should occur in the initial two local rail slots of the upper 3-CHAS7 module chassis. Available options for the 3-CPU3 consist of an LCD display with user interface, an RS-232 communication card, and RS-485 series network communication cards.

The 3-CPU3 module is completely compatible with both the 3-CPU and 3-CPU1 modules when operating on the same network.
