SuperDuct detectors constantly monitor the airflow within HVAC ducts and trigger an alarm whenever smoke is present. An alarm is set off when the concentration (measured as percent obscuration) of combustion byproducts in the sampled air surpasses the detector’s sensitivity threshold. Even at air velocities as low as 100 feet per minute, sufficient airflow is maintained through the sensor’s smoke chamber via the air intake holes in the sampling tube, with air exiting through the exhaust tube. It is essential that SuperDuct air sampling tubes are installed with their inlet holes oriented toward the direction of the airflow. These sampling tubes can be rotated in 45-degree increments, enabling the alignment of the air holes and allowing the detector to be mounted at nearly any angle in relation to the airflow. The sampling tube can be inserted either from the duct side of the unit or from within the sensor compartment, depending on the installer’s preference. (Note: The exhaust tube must always be installed from the duct side.) The ability to rotate the sampling tubes in 45-degree steps ensures flexible positioning to suit virtually any airflow direction.
